I’ve realised that writing these postcard-sized reviews does not do what I had assumed it would. What insight can I provide, beyond my subjective tastes?
For me to say that I adored this says more about me than the book. I’m revealing something of myself, what I’m attracted to in storytelling, and what kind of art pricks my skin.
And that is what this book is. A portrait of the narrator, an outline, created from the space around them - the heat of Athens, their conversations - rather than describing them directly.
I can’t wait to finish this trilogy.
